Robin provides a myriad of examples, as well as some failures from which she learned important lessons to overcome and exceed expectations. In addition, we also talked about a unique partnership/CUSO her credit is involved in to implement a new core processor later this year. Credit Union of New Jersey and two other credit unions have teamed up to pool their resources — as only CUs can — to purchase and install a new core processing system. This joint effort allowed the credit unions to incorporate new technology, when normally they may not have been able to by themselves. Great teamwork story, as well. continue reading »last_img read more

But you’re still intimidating. Why? Because you’re the boss. Sometimes, you say or do things that create fear in your employees without even knowing it. Here are three reasons your employees are scared of you. You’re detached from the team: You’ve got a million things going on and your employees don’t really feel that you’re a part of the team. This is normal. As the overseer of all things, you will undoubtedly be focused on a different level than everyone else. The downside is that your employees see you as “the authority figure who makes all the big decisions.” Without finding ways to bond with your team, you’ll never be someone they accept as one of their own. You’re in the zone: You’re the boss for a reason. You stay focused and you get things done. You’re not necessarily unhappy, but you’re definitely not walking around smiling at people all day. Because of this, you can come across as a scary, robot-like humanoid death machine. Don’t feel bad for being busy, just know that it might take a little extra effort if you want to seem more approachable.Your help is very commanding: The next time an employee comes to you for help, think about the way in which you respond. Do you engage in conversation that leads to the employee solving the problem on their own, or do you simply tell them what to do? While the latter might seem like the easier option, it also creates doubt and fear in the employee’s mind. When the employee is given the chance to solve the problem, they feel accomplished and valued.last_img read more
