first_imgThe Northern Territory welcomed its new direct Qantas service yesterday, catering to growing demand from Melbourne to Darwin.The three times weekly Cityflyer service will fly between the two states on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a fourth Monday service to be included during peak travel months of July and October.NT Tourism Minister Malarndirri McCarthy said Qantas is increasing travellers choice by adding up to 3,700 inbound seats. “This is great news for Territorians as this new direct service brings the total number of flights from Melbourne to Darwin to an estimated 20 each week, and provides more choice when travelling interstate for business or pleasure,” Ms McCarthy said.According to the tourism head, NT is the second largest domestic interstate market and up to 70 percent of the 146,000 Victoria resident visited Darwin during their stay.“With this new service our weekly interstate and international inbound capacity in May for Darwin is over 25,000, which is an additional 1,200 seats per week compared to the same time last year,” Ms McCarthy added.“Qantas is also the airline partner for our current Kakadu marketing campaign and the airline is offering a special Darwin airfare for the duration of the campaign period – which runs until 5 June.“This new service along with routes offered by Jetstar and Virgin Australia provide a range of flight options to meet the needs of leisure and business visitors.” Source = e-Travel Blackboard: N.Jlast_img
