National swimming champs set for next month

(PNGSI) executives.This annual prestigious event on the 2016 PNGSI calendar will once again bring together our talented, enthusiastic and aspiring athletes and volunteers from around the country and overseas to experience and witness great competition.PNG Swimming Inc. (PNGSI) President, Elizabeth Wells said it is hoped there will be some excellent performances from the athletes competing in their individual events in all four strokes being contested- Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly and the Individual Medley events.“As swimmers race towards swimming personal best times, with the hope of capturing a PNG record in the process, they will also be competing for a place on the PNG Swim Team to the 13th FINA World Short Course Championships to be held in Windsor, Canada from December 5-11 this year,” said Wells.She added that swimmers from Boroko and Lae Clubs’ are preparing well to race over the competition weekend.She said the competition will also provide an opportunity for athletes to swim qualifying times to register a spot on the National BSP Aquatic Excellence Squads.She thanked TNT who have been the major sponsor of the event since 2003.  “Their continued sponsorship of the National Short Course Championships, both financially, and in kind, allows PNGSI executives to provide a national competition run under FINA rules for our athletes to showcase their talent in the pool,” said Wells.last_img read more

first_img Tags: Kasawo Islamic Secondary SchoolKibuli ssUMEA Solidarity Games Kibuli are the defending champions of the competition (Photo by Agency)UMEA Solidarity Games19th -22nd April 2019Kasawo Islamic Secondary School, MukonoKIBULI – Kasawo Islamic Secondary School has been cleared to host the 2019 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games for secondary schools.The announcement was made at the UMEA offices in Kibuli on Tuesday, 22-01-2019.Kasawo Islamic was nominated during last year’s event at Nkoma SS in Mbale and given the flag for hosting the Games.The organizing committee visited the school facilities on three occasions before approving them as hosts.UMEA Secretary General Hajji Abubakar Kakembo confirmed the news and guaranteed that Kawowo is capable for hosting the event.Hajji Kakembo assured the press that the organizing committee has critically observed Kasawo Islamic’s facilities before making the decision. He further noted that the committee was fully convinced Kasawo could run the event appropriately.“The Director and Headmaster of Kasawo Islamic pledged himself during last year’s event in Mbale. They applied for hosting the UMEA Solidarity games. Our committee visited Kasawo three times and found out that the school is capable of hosting the event this year.
