first_imgBush told Reid not everyone shares her set of priorities, but that it’s not damaging her relationships with her peers. “I have a relationship with all of the people on the caucus. A lot of them that are saying that this was hurtful, but what’s hurtful for me is the people in my community dying,” Bush said. “What’s hurtful is St. Louis being No. 1 for police killings since 2013, for six years straight, according to some research.”St. Louis had the most shootings per capita, according to a 2017 Vice News analysis of data from 50 of the nation’s largest police departments. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch listed 30 police shootings in the St. Louis area this year alone.- Advertisement – “I’m not trying to hurt anybody’s district or (prevent) anybody from keeping their seats,” Bush said. “I’m not looking at feelings though. I’m looking at life. I’m trying to save lives.”In her interview with Reid, Bush weighed in on a diverse set of topics from Democratic political strategy to health care as President Donald Trump’s administration vigorously tries to snuff out former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare reform effort, the Affordable Care Act, in a Supreme Court case. Get this: Republicans are actually attempting to argue that because Congress got rid of a penalty attached to the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that most Americans get health insurance, that the whole act should be struck down. Even the court’s conservative justices aren’t buying that one.- Advertisement – “So many children have been knocked off of the Medicaid rolls, and it’s been OK by our local government,” Bush said. The registered nurse added that millions of people in her state are going to be affected by the Supreme Court’s decision, including those with preexisting conditions. Missouri residents voted 53.3% to 46.7% to approve a constitutional amendment that will expand who is eligible for Medicaid. The expansion, which covers Missouri residents earning up to 133% of the federal poverty level, is an optional part of the Affordable Care Act for states, and the federal government pays for 90% of the costs. Bush said complaints that Medicaid is “a burden on our system” miss the mark. “When your family member shows up to the hospital, I don’t pay attention to what insurance they have. I make sure that your family member is taken care of.”RELATED: Trump finds hostile audience in Roberts, Kavanaugh in effort to destroy Obamacare- Advertisement – RELATED: The Supreme Court hears one more ‘laughably weak’ challenge to ObamacareRELATED: Want to flip a state blue? first_imgFor those who have seen the much-touted Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther movie, M’Baku, will be familiar to them. For those who have not, get ready to pay close attention to this character. M’Baku, or the rebellious ruler of the Jabari tribe and the movie’s villain, is played by none other than 6′ 5”, Tobago-born actor, Winston Duke. Left Tobago at age-9Duke, 31, is the first cousin of Tobagonian Watson Duke and was born in Argyle, Trinidad & Tobago. His mother owned her own restaurant when he was a kid, while juggling a government job onthe island. At age 9, his mom sold all their belongings and headed to Brooklyn, New York with him and his sister, who pursued her dream of becoming a doctor. Young Winston graduated from Brighton High School in Rochester, New York in 2004 and started acting in theater productions for Portland Stage Company and Yale Repertory Theatre. At Yale, he befriended fellow actor Lupita Nyong’o, with whom he now stars in Black Panther and participated in Folks, an acting club started by another Black Panther co-star, Angela Bassett. Duke went on to get roles on several television shows, including ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Person of Interest,’ and ‘The Messengers.’ He even returned to his native Trinidad & Tobago in 2012 for the theatre production of ‘An Echo in the Bone,’ directed by fellow Yale alumna Timmia Hearn Feldman and starred alongside actress Taromi Lourdes Joseph.Related: Caribbean born actors get rave reviews in Black Panther performanceFirst big screen roleBut Black Panther marks his first foray onto the big screen. “This is a lot more than I could have ever expected, especially for my first role,” he told Vanity Fair. And Duke didn’t just read the script to get a sense of his character; he was instrumental in shaping M’Baku. He is the one who came up with the idea of his character’s hilarious habit of grunting when he wanted to silence someone, and he conducted his own research to set his tribe apart from the rest of the Wakandans.  “I worked on Nigerian and Nigerian Igbo influences, trying to develop a different kind of culture of call and response and vocality that was different than the rest of Wakanda, for the Jabari. We worked on just having the presence – something that was different, but still felt cohesive because of its variety,” he told GQ.  People looks on him longerAnd now Duke tells Vanity Fair that he can already feel his old life changing as pedestrians look at him just a little bit longer when he’s on the street.  “My life is changing,” he says calmly. “I’m becoming a lot more watched, and I can tell.”Next up for this Tobago boy – ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and he plants to take his code of work and apply it to other films.last_img read more

first_img This week’s 6 of the Best comes from Alex Windsor, founder of Apps4 web media.Keep reading to discover a sporting VIP experience that left Windsor hooked, a Premier League flop who proved to be an unlikely scorer in a winning wager and wide musical taste.Best Album I love listening to music, be it in the car, in the office or when I am running. I have a very wide taste in music and like lots of different styles from different decades. My favourite album is The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem. It may be a few years old now but was on repeat constantly when I was growing up. It reminds me of good times at University, making new memories and new friends. I listened to it a few weeks back and it is still as good today as it was back then. Hard to believe it was the year 2000 when it came out, only seems like it was a few years ago.Best HolidayI love holidays and travelling so it is difficult to pick my best as they are all so good for lots of different reasons, but if I had to pick one, it would have been my holiday last year, as it was also my honeymoon as well. The best for lots of reasons. I had just got married the week before, and it was also the first time taking my then 8 month old son on holiday too. We went to Lyttos Beach in Greece for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it.Laying in the sun, drinking lots of beer and playing in the swimming pool with my little boy. The World Cup was on too, so it was a chance for me to sneak off and get some peace and quiet and watch England too. Not that we got as far in the competition as we had hoped. We met some really good friends and made some great memories. I can’t wait to go away again with them all, it’s the only real time I really relax and switch off.Best FilmI have got quite a few best films but my favourite & film is 300. I remember watching it at the cinema and thinking wow. I have lost track of how many times I have watched it since. The special effects were amazing and watching it on a big screen just made it even better. I love the action and fighting scenes, the story, the detail and the fact it is loosely based on a true story makes it even better. In fact I am going to be watching it this weekend as it’s been a while since I put it on. HD is good, but not as good as a cinema with the surround sound. My other favourite films that run 300 close would be the Lord Of The Rings, Return of the King and the Matrix.Best Sporting ExperienceI have been to a fair few sporting events over the years, some as a guest of an operator. My favourite would be when one of my biggest clients took me to Wimbledon. They got us great seats on the Centre Court, and we saw some of the best tennis players on the planet play right in front of us. I wasn’t a big tennis fan before going but after, I couldn’t stop watching and watched it every day on TV.Not only Wimbledon, they took us across the road to the exclusive Gatsby club for lunch and of course strawberries and cream and Pimms. A quick bite to eat then back across to Centre Court to watch some more games along with more Pimms. It was a great day, and I have been hooked on Tennis ever since. The full VIP treatment certainly helped the day stand out.Best BookI don’t get as much chance as I would like to read these days and tend to start to read a book, have to put it down and then not start again. One book that I did read cover to cover was called The Game by Neil Strauss. It is about a journalist who dives deep in to the world of a pickup artist. I was a young, influential (single) man at the time of reading and it blew my mind what these guys were doing. I never put any of it in to practice but it is worth a read to see what these guys got up to.Best BetI don’t really have a lot of luck when it comes to betting so it easy to pick out my best punt. Back in the 2017/18 season, I put a half time result accumulator on one Sunday afternoon. I went for a 9 fold acca with pretty high odds that I thought I had no chance of winning so I out a massive £1 on as that was what I had left in one of my accounts. 8 results come in and I just needed one more towin £330.I can remember waiting for Valencia to be winning at half time and they scored in the 39th minute to go 1-0 up. Simone Zaza scored and made the bet land, I was amazed as he hardly ever scored! I know £330 isn’t a huge amount but not bad off £1. I also backed a few good winners when I was taken to Goodwood Racecourse with one of the operators back in 2015.
