first_imgThe Warriors (13-2) won their ninth consecutive game as Stephen Curry (31 points) and Klay Thompson (26 points) returned to normal. They shot a collective 20-of-32 from the field and 11-of-19 from 3-point range after going a combined 9-of-35 from the field in their upset loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles three weeks ago. Kevin Durant seemed adjusted to his role just fine (28 points on 11-of-15 clip). And after Walton told his players the Warriors may feel “nervous” about playing the Lakers again, Golden State actually appeared at ease in exerting their dominance. Then there marks the understandable disclaimers the Lakers (8-8) faced. They learned on Wednesday second-year guard D’Angelo Russell will stay sidelined for at least two weeks after having a non-invasive procedure to treat his sore left knee. Lakers forward Julius Randle also sat out after a hip pointer limited his explosiveness in recent days. And after making the game-winning shot against Oklahoma City on Tuesday by stealing a pass directed toward Lou Williams, Lakers forward Nick Young nursed a stubbed left toe and offered only eight points on 3-of-8 shooting. It goes without saying. But no matter how much the Lakers have progressed with play and upset wins, they do not match the Warriors’ talent.Lakers rookie forward Brandon Ingram offered 16 points in his first career start at small forward. Lakers guards Jordan Clarkson (14 points) and Lou Williams (13 points) maintained their consistency, while center Timofey Mozgov added 12 points. Veteran guard Jose Calderon had seven points in what could mark many starts in the next two weeks at point guard. None of that compared to what Golden State offered. The Warriors held a 73-47 halftime lead over the Lakers in what marked the highest point total they allowed an opponent to score through two quarters this season. The first half featured vast discrepancies in shooting percentage between Golden State (61.7%) and the Lakers (39.5%). Curry, Thompson and Durant combined for a 52-47 halftime lead over the Lakers, too. In the second half, Warriors reserve Ian Clark scored 17 of his 21 points to maintain the double-digit lead. The Lakers faced plenty of situations on Wednesday that hardly made Walton express as much concern beforehand about a four-game trip next week in New Orleans, Chicago, Toronto and Memphis.“I’ll take the road,” Walton said, “over the Warriors.”Unfortunately for the Lakers, they face Golden State again on Friday at Staples Center under similar circumstances. OAKLAND >> The afternoon started off pleasantly as Lakers coach Luke Walton caught up with Warriors coach Steve Kerr about their personal lives and their basketball teams. The nostalgia kicked in when Walton received a warm ovation during lineup introductions to commemorate his two previous years as an assistant. Then, Walton witnessed something that made him smile as a Warriors assistant and frustrated as a Lakers’ coach. The Lakers suffered a 149-106 loss to Golden State on Wednesday at Oracle Arena, extended their eight-game road losing streak here and set a record for largest margin of defeat against the Warriors in franchise history. The former San Francisco Warriors beat the Lakers by 39 points on Nov. 11, 1966.The reasons were familiar and new.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more
