Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo will not be punished by the NFL for being charged with misdemeanor assault in October, The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly reported Friday on Twitter.The league placed Chickillo on the Commissioner’s Exempt List Oct. 20 after his arrest in Pennsylvania on charges he assaulted his girlfriend, Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman, during an altercation at a casino hotel. It removed him from the list Oct. 31, a day after the charges were dropped. Newman was cited for summary harassment, the (Pittsburgh) Post-Gazette reported. Prosecutors in Fayette County, Pa., dropped the charges against Chickillo and Newman after the two appeared in court separately on Oct. 30.Chickillo, 26, apologized in a statement Nov. 1 for his involvement in the incident. Newman, 25, said in an Instagram post that “(t)here were no payoffs, no behind the scene deals” for her to drop charges against Chickillo.
