first_imgWest Florida rolls over Florida Southern to win the Second Match of Weekend Sept. 10, 2007Box ScoreLAKELAND, Fla. – Playing its fourth away match in a row and second of the weekend trip, the West Florida women’s soccer (3-2-0) defeated 2-0 Florida Southern College (5-1-0) in today’s match played at the Mocs home in Lakeland, Fla. The Argonauts blanked the tough Mocs who had their first loss of the season.In the first half both teams were playing a “ping pong” in the midfield, fighting for the ball possession. The game remained scoreless until around twenty minutes when at the same time sophomore defender Anastasia Prescott and her opponent tackled for a ball. Dernelle Mascall took advantage that both players stayed on the ground to get the ball and sprint towards the goal. Mascall shot left footed from outside the 18 yard box beating the keeper. The second goal came at around 35 minutes when senior midfield Brandi Adams cross the ball from outside the box to sophomore forward Jodi Galucci, who was free inside the box and shot, giving the Argonauts the 2-0 lead.In the second half the Mocs were determined to come back from a 2-0 down score, however Keeper sophomore Courtney Jones came up with a couple of good performances to remain the Argonauts in the comfortable lead. The Mocs lost some of their hopes when had a player ejected out of the game, having to play the remaining 35 minutes with a man down. The Mocs still remained offensive, however the good job done by the Argonauts defenders avoided any risk under Jones’ goal.”Pleased with the effort of today’s game and the entire weekend,” said head coach Joe Bartlinski. “Especially with our defenders Linda Ganehed, Kaley Morris, Anastasia Prescott, Marrie Hastings and our keeper Courtney Jones. These were two very important wins in achieving our season’s goal of making to a sixth straight national tournament.”West Florida will next face University of Mobile at the UWF Soccer Complex located in Pensacola, Fla., on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7:30pm CT.
